Hey, I'm Ian Anderson. The Math Team is my investment and technology advisory practice, based out of Saint Paul, Minnesota. I advise companies on how to build in web3 — and then I help them build it.
My approach is hands-on. I embed with my portfolio companies, helping them to escape the dreaded 0‑>1 phase.
With a growing portfolio of active investments across Bitcoin infrastructure, DeFi protocols, gaming, and emerging technology, I've built deep expertise across the stack. My portfolio spans from early-stage startups to partnerships with major enterprises like Warner Bros. Discovery.
Background
While this business is built on my technology and investment background, my secret sauce is that I've founded 11 companies with 7 successful exits, which is why Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's put me in its 40 Under 40. I bring a deep technical expertise and a builder's mindset to every engagement and I am honest about what I see.
How I Work
Bitcoin-first thesis
I believe Bitcoin is the foundation. My investments and advisory work center on projects building on or adjacent to the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Hands-on engagement
I don't advise from the sidelines. I write code, design systems, and build alongside my portfolio companies.
Long-term conviction
I invest with a long time horizon. My best outcomes come from deep, sustained partnerships rather than quick flips.
Technical depth
My advice is grounded in real technical understanding. I know the difference between a good whitepaper and a good codebase.
